ATHLETICS

The Gordon College Highlanders are active participants in intercollegiate sports, including women's and men's cross country, women's and men's soccer, men's basketball, women's fast-pitch softball, baseball, women's tennis, cheerleading, and most recently wrestling and swimming.

Gordon College is a member of the Georgia Junior College Athletic Association and the National Junior College Athletic Association. Membership in these associations entitles state winners in any sport to participate in regional and national competitions.

McKay Receives National Attention

Gordon College Cross Country runner Robert McKay was interviewed after the Region XVII Championship in Albany last month and he’s now featured in the November issue of the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Review magazine. His inspirational story competing as a blind student-athlete for the Highlanders has caught the attention of state and national media outlets.

Jackson, Highlanders Whip Bulldogs

The Sound Doctrine Bulldogs could not keep pace with the hot hand of freshman Malcom Jackson and Gordon College as the Highlanders whipped the visitors 93 – 75. Jackson drained six three-pointers and would lead all scorers with 35. If it wasn’t Jackson from the outside, it was Daveion Zellner from the inside. The sophomore from Forsyth had a strong performance with 19 points.

Just What the Doctor Ordered

It wasn’t easy but the Gordon College Women’s Basketball team held off a late second half surge from Brewton Parker to secure a 63 – 55 win on Wednesday night. It was also the Lady Highlander’s first victory of the season and was highlighted by four players in double figures. Jessica Gainey had a team-high 18 points while Nicole Cuffy and Jasmine Grayson each contributed 11 points. Nesha Williams also was credited with 10 points on the night. The women’s team will be back in action Monday (Nov. 23) against Andrew College. Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Alumni Memorial Hall.

Victory At Home?

The Gordon College Women’s Basketball team is looking for their first win of the 2009-2010 season when they host Brewton Parker JV on Wednesday (Nov. 18) at 5:30 p.m. in Alumni Memorial Hall. After four competitive contests, the Lady Highlanders hope their fortunes will change tomorrow with a victory. GC has been on the road for the last three games but should now benefit from three straight home games. Admission for Wednesday’s contest is $5.00 for adults while children 14 and under are FREE!

Solid Second Half Leads To Victory

Gordon College learned a valuable lesson Tuesday in the loss against #7 Tallahassee (FL) Community College. It takes a solid performance for two halves to win a basketball game. That's exactly what the Highlanders did Thursday as they took a two-point halftime lead and turned it into a 71 - 59 victory.

Second Half Slips Away From GC

It was a great first half of basketball for Gordon College as they battled #7 Tallahassee (FL) Community College step-for-step Tuesday night at Alumni Memorial Hall. Numerous lead changes, blocked shots and three pointers highlighted the first twenty minutes of play with the Highlanders meeting every Eagles’ challenge on the court. TCC would take just a one point advantage into the dressing room at halftime 37 - 36.

Back In The Fire!

After picking up their first win on Wednesday, the Gordon College Men’s Basketball team must now face # 7 Tallahassee (FL) Community College on Tuesday (November 10) at 7:30 p.m. in Alumni Memorial Hall. It will be no easy task as the Eagles are led by preseason NJCAA All-Americans Bernard James and Marvell Waithe. James, a 6-foot-10 center, earned a spot on the second team while the 6-foot-9 Waithe was a third team selection.

It's The Women's Turn!

With the Gordon College Men’s Basketball team opening their home season with a 93 – 79 victory last night, it’s now time for the women to take the spotlight. The Lady Highlanders will host Atlanta Metro College tonight at 6 p.m. in Alumni Memorial Hall. Admission for the game is $5.00 for adults while children 14 and under are FREE!
